THE TRIBUTE IN LIGHT
The National September 11th Memorial
The Tribute in Light
Each year on the night of September 11th, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum presents Tribute in Light—a powerful installation that beams twin columns of light into the sky from dusk to dawn. The tribute honors those lost in the 2001 attacks and symbolizes the enduring strength of New York City.
In 2017, the foundation commissioned Nova to produce a film that would capture the scale and emotion of the installation. With only one night to shoot, our team planned and executed the entire production in a single, unforgettable evening.

"They Are Our Searchlights, Aiding Us in the Long Struggle Find Some Meaning in That Tragic Day, and Lighting a Path Toward the Possibility of Hope and Rebirth."
PROCESS
Our goal with this film was to reflect how Tribute in Light reaches across the city—visible to New Yorkers in every borough—and how, even briefly, it reconnects us with the shared sense of unity we felt on the morning of September 11th.
Through this piece, we sought to capture the installation’s beauty, honor the moment that inspired it, and remember those whose lives were lost.
Today, the film lives on the National September 11 Memorial & Museum’s website, serving as a powerful tool for the foundation to share the significance of the installation with both visitors and donors who make this annual tribute possible.
